Acne party for 160g

I can't remember if I ever mentioned this but part of the reason for my lack of recent blogging, bar a predilection for late nights spent making films and listening to Billie Holiday remixes, is 160g.
An online magazine brimming with the latest fashion and culture musings and yes, the journalistic stylings of yours truly. You should probably check it out. Here's what I got up to last Thursday:
                                                                              160g

Last night at around 8pm the corner at 33 Greene Street in New York’s SoHo was teeming with lovely ladies and gentlemen, speaking more languages than Mozart and sporting an assortment of ensembles (lots of leather, a smattering of artfully draped silks, healthy splashes of distressed denim and the odd polka dot dress) all suited to the launch of Acne’s new flagship store.
As a huge fan of the Swedish brand it was a pleasure to spend the evening with other like-minded folk of the Jonny Johansson ilk, including guests such as Garance Dore, Nylon’s Dani Stahl and Zosia Mamet of HBO Girls fame. I chatted to a photographer dressed in the most eye-catching attire of the night, a top whose sleeves were covered in 3D geometric shapes, paired with some high-waisted leather shorts and accessorised with a plait emerging from the roof of her cranium, as though her very brain were a plant-plot for pretty thoughts.

There were flowers of indigo and violet everywhere, including the heads of the waiters, and there was ample space, 4,000 square feet in fact, for rifling through the racks and trying on some of Acne’s frighteningly good footwear. A swedish midsummer celebration through and through, DJ Misty Rabbit, spinner of discs for some of the highest names in fashion, blasted some suitably sunny beats for our post-work eardrums.

I felt a little sorry for the caterers, their cocktails, tasting somewhat like a strawberry daiquiri moonlighting as a liquid Licorise Allsort (embellished with stick of rhubarb I might add), proved so popular that everytime new drinks were brought out the cacophony was akin to throwing a fresh steak into a pool of well-dressed piranhas.
By the time I left the sun was down, people were still spilling into the street in efforts to gain a glimpse of the store and I was more than a little tipsy. It seemed the perfect way to celebrate the new retail space for the brand (whose name stands for Ambition to Create Novel Expression), as unique an evening as it was fun, everything from the music to the mini-meatballs had Acne’s fresh, fun and fashionable signature all over it.
