Aladdin's Den

Ok, so...I can't decide if this is good or bad. Y'see, the thing is folks...I'm in love, heart-meltingly, knee-wobblingly in love. No, I haven't been swooning over tall dark and handsomes in Paris again, nor have I met Jon Kortajarena or an equally chiseled-to-perfection bi-linguist (yet). The object of my affections is just that, an object. Made of fine quality paper and a fair amount of glue. It all began a few weeks ago, while stumbling around Soho in a fashion typical of my wayward self. I came across the Aladdin's den of newsagents, a glossy paper heaven housing shelves upon shelves of imports and obscure publications, specialising in topics from architecture, art, fashion and graphic design to music, photography and luxury automobiles. In case you wanted to visit, its on Wardour street with a big black sign, I was far too busy drooling over the contents of the shop to notice its name...sorry. In this magical newsagents (you can tell I fucking dig this shop right?) I found many a magazine worthy of purchase, some of them looked like art books and were bursting with gorgeous photography, but there were two in particular that I decided to open my purse for. The first, Ballad Of is dedicated to showcasing emerging artists, it's only published biannually but the one that I happened to pick up was all about letter writing. Excellent. The girl who always carries first class stamps and has a draw stuffed full of handwritten correspondence actually thought she'd died and gone to nostalgic nirvana. The graphics, the faded soft toned pictures, the biro scrawls and of course the content could not have been more up my street...I even felt weirdly proud because one of the photographers featured already has a place on my wardrobe door! The only reason I am thinking that this is not the greatest thing to have happened to me since I discovered the joys of peanut butter, honey and banana sandwiches, is because beautiful though it is, Ballad Of costs a tear inducing £8. Although I suppose if its only a biannual... ;)
This post is getting far to long so I will introduce you to my second paper gangster later in the week.
*I realise I have filed this under literature, and as a lit student... I realise magazines don't quite count as literature but this is no heat magazine or shitty gossip glossy, plus I have no other more applicable tabs. Apologies.

  2. And I can so understand. I find myself falling in love with things as well, so much less complicated than people. ;)
